Custom duty concessions

Recent changes to the Customs Act have clarified the legal basis for customs duty exemptions for the tourism and manufacturing sectors. These exemptions are granted to projects that support economic development in tourism, manufacturing, agriculture and fisheries. The Customs Amendment Act 2022 clarifies the legality of decisions made by the Investment Committee to grant duty exemptions. This is a welcome development as Samoa looks to economic recovery after the negative impacts of COVID.
